biography:
A Kite Is A Victim
A Kite Is A Victim is Al Galvez on acoustic guitars and vocals, Ulysses Perez on drums and percussion, and Henry Rajan on fretless bass. These musicians are no strangers to the coffee house and club circuit, having enchanted venues everywhere for years, with the subtle-edged atmosphere of their dream-driven music. Their ambitious performance schedule has built them a reputation as something to see and hear in and out of the studio.

ADotMays
a.mays drops beats, basslines, guitar, keys, and samples into a song structure onto which he drops his prose - part rhyme part sing song rap.

artist:
biography:
Eric Alexandrakis
Classically trained on piano and self taught on everything from guitar to kicking washing machines, Eric Alexandrakis' piano teachers' dreams of him becoming a classical pianist died out when he discovered some of the melodic pop from the second British Invasion. He does production work in Miami, FL including recordings and mixes for local bands, commercials, promotional films, as well as photography for web pages and local releases. "I was always attracted to recordings that sounded like you were looking inside a swiss watch... everything worked perfectly. I'm heavily influenced by imagery."

artist:
biography:
Arlan
Not the now traditional twenty-something wailing or its reactionary siblings, the sticky-sweet sister or rebellious brother. The whole family lives in Arlan and comes out as an integrated thought instead of a grievance. A creator of tunes that actually have meaning to the so-called listener, without proselytizing or using conventional rock contrivances.

artist:
biography:
The Avenging Lawnmowers of Justice
The Avenging Lawnmowers of Justice are not your average musical group... and they like it that way! Surrounded by the current crap... I mean, crop of doom and gloom rock bands, The Lawnmowers revel in the fact that oddity is a commodity, with their own brand of sharp, bright, hook laden pop tunes. The songs are concise, seldom clocking in at more that three minutes each, and deal with subjects as disparate as cannibalism, credit card debt, worms, puppets, cellphones, alien abduction, automobile accidents, and Jules Vernesque inventions, to name but a few. When they do deal with common topics (such as love), they always find a way to look at it from the twisted side of town.

artist:
biography:
Rob Christensen
Rob Christensen is a singer/songwriter/recording artist from Eureka, California. He has written dozens of songs and released critically acclaimed albums on his own Sweet Science label. Christensen describes his style as a combination of rock, alt, and folk and he likes the Beatles, R.E.M., Elliot Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Beth Orton, and Neil Young among others. He is also a columnist for the Portland-based nationally-distributed and much loved Tape Op, "the creative music recording magazine".

artist:
biography:
The Czars
The history of the Czars goes back to the last millenium (May 1994 to be exact) when John Grant (vocals) and Chris Pearson (bass) met at the dance club called Rock Island in the red light district of lower downtown Denver, Colorado. Chris was in the local band legends of Denver, Jux County, but willing to try something new. John had spent the better part of 6 years going to college in Germersheim, Germany at the Institute for Applied Linguistics at the University of Mainz, and was in a local german band. Drummer Jeff Linsenmaier was found literally in the alley behind the old Mayan Theater. Chris recruited fellow Jux County member Andy Monley in early 1997 and second guitarist Roger Green joined in 1999 after departing Idelmind to fill out the sound and add effects.

artist:
biography:
Jolynn Daniel
Iowa-bred singer/songwriter Jolynn Daniel is quickly forging a niche with her unique brand of Midwestern-Roots stylings. She's one of the very few artists today that successfully walks the line between Rock, Pop, Folk and Country without ever careening too far one way or the other.

artist:
biography:
The Dharma Bomb
The Dharma Bomb plays Florida-flavored roots rock with pop sensibilities and a deep groove. The songs are simple and honest and created by four generally sweaty musicians who are known for their intoxicating, unpredictable live shows. Led by singer/pianist Todd Thompson, they released Greetings from Lemon City in 1998. In 2000 they released their second record, The Glencoe Sessions (EP),and were named "Best Local Pop-Rock Band" by the Miami New Times.

artist:
biography:
The Gabe Dixon Band
The range of inspirations for the collection of songs on The Gabe Dixon Band's Reprise/Warner Bros. debut CD On a Rolling Ball includes Elton John, The Police, Beethoven, Miles Davis and Stevie Wonder amongst others; but the final results - which Billboard.com has called "real music by real people" - are uniquely their own. Gabe Dixon, Winston Harrison, Jano Rix and Chandler Webber, all exceptional trained musicians in their early 20's, exhibit old souls through their melodic and textured songs.

artist:
biography:
Dollylectric
Dollylectric is a solo project from Eli Bascoy of Future Ex and Dollyrocker. The thematically dark music is filled with happy sounds like toy drums, church bells and flute-sounding organs.

artist:
biography:
Emily Easterly
Introspective and insightful, the simplicity of her chords and the striking juxtaposition of lyrics leave the songs laid out for the listener to figure out for themselves and to weave into their own lives. Her wispy, weathered vocals have a light texture sounding confidently timid. This creates a new sound which some could classify in the same genre as popular female singer/songwriters, but those who know more than just popular music know that is it so much more. It's original, creative and not artificial because it's Emily making her own way and doing it exactly how she wants to.

artist:
biography:
Evil Bad People
Dispell the myth. 3 MCs--Jocexoxo, illKbong, adotmays. Crazy mix from heavy, to funky, singing, raps, male and female, rock guitars, feedback, loops, jazzy, poetry verse, xoxoillKadot.

artist:
biography:
For Squirrels
The members of For Squirrels are fans of fairy tales. "I think our music should be a book of fables that everyone can relate to," says bassist Bill White. "Our goal as a band is to have each song take you to a different place," adds lead singer Jack Vigliatura. "It's almost like a novel with each chapter expressing a different thing."

artist:
biography:
Brian Franklin
In June of 1995, singer/songwriter/guitarist Brian Franklin released his debut CD, Suburban Hallucinations, described as "an impressive collection of haunting acoustic ballads and midtempo rockers." Continuously writing, Franklin released his second full-length album, Stir Fried World, in 1997. It is a more electric and concise album. Franklin's songwriting covers a wide spectrum of subject matter: from disillusionment and conflict to love and survival.

Gift Horse is Arlan Feiles - vocals, guitar; Aaron Kant - drums; Dan Green - bass. "Arlan's songs are like road maps to the soul"...Greg Baker (New Times)

artist:
biography:
Amanda Green
There's a playfulness in Amanda's music - and indeed, in her life - that's deceptive. But as the 1900's come to a close, the Miami-based singer/songwriter is truly coming into her own as a major artist and unique voice to be taken very, very seriously. Her 1996 debut CD Junk and Stuff was a bold mix of edgy rockers and introspective ballads, layered with dazzling sonic touches. Her second full-length CD The Nineteen Hundreds demonstrates Green's natural maturation as a songwriter with fully realized compositiions.

artist:
biography:
t. griffin
t. griffin is a songwriter and sonic adventurer based in New York City. His two CDs (1999's Tortuga and 2001's Light in the Aisles) have been acclaimed critically and become college radio favorites. Live, he has been called 'the iron chef of singer-songwriters' for his ingenious use of a few simple materials. Two walkmans, a sampler, a Casio and a 1950 Gibson Guitar create the haunting backdrops that frame his gently twisted story songs. In addition to his songs, he has recorded music for theater and film, including soundtrack work alongside Sparklehorse for Jem Cohen (Fugazi: Instrument, Benjamin Smoke) and Ann Bogart's SITI company.

artist:
biography:
Ho Chi Minh
The music of Ho Chi Minh is about truth… in the purest sense. Take the band's name - Ho Chi Minh is probably best known as the popular alias of Vietnam's revolutionary communist leader Nguyen That Thanh… to those that don't look at the simple truth behind those three words. Literally translated they mean "He Who Enlightens". The band's name exemplifies the multi-dimensionality of songwriter Alex Diaz's lyrics. At once ambiguous and universal, Diaz's lyrics invite interpretation. Ho Chi Minh's music is brought to life with the help of vocalist/percussionist Bobby MacIntyre and bassist Shane Soloski. Diaz's stout guitar sound is the result of his unique guitar tuning and the presence of a microphone within the guitar itself.

Jux County
After over a decade of performing in Denver, Andy Monley, Ron Smith and Chris Pearson, the trio that occupies Jux County, has the longevity as long as the source of their name, from William Faulkner, the Purlizter Prize winning author from Mississippi. Faulkner would set his stories in the mythical Yoknapatawpha County, Mississippi, and juxtapose different ideologies together in a story, much like Jux County does with elements of country, rock, jazz, punk, surf, metal, industrial, waltzes and polka. Alas, the name Jux County!

artist:
biography:
Mary Karlzen
Her songs bound forward and homeward with rootsy, upbeat guitar strum, strong pop/rock melodies, and the same sort of lyrical introspection that drew her into great songwriter records (Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, James Taylor, etc.) in the first place.

artist:
biography:
Chris Korzen
Songwriter/musician Chris Korzen has seen many trends come and go since his teenage debut 45 RPM single - "Nirvana" b/w "Heart and Mind" back in 1984. Yet, throughout his career, Korzen has maintained his integrity to the craft of pop/rock songwriting. The self-taught multi-instumentalist has explored various genres of music including jazz, classical, third stream and blues/rock, making each exploration his own.

artist:
biography:
Laundryroom Squelchers
Nothing less than the deconstruction and obliteration of rock and roll in dissonance and off-key chaos. The disharmonic convergence is derived from traditional instruments, bizarre electronic gadgets, and just about anything else that might help create some of the most unusual sounds this side of a train wreck. The band was created in 1993 right after the demise of Scraping Teeth, a band that was crowned the worst band in America by Spin magazine.

artist:
biography:
The Lucy Pinkwater Experience
"Like a stone cold killer on Christmas Eve" comes the Lucy Pinkwater Experience, stalking the mind of the unsuspecting with their eerie devolutions of sound and ideas. Emanating from Miami, FL, this musical project headed by the reclusive Joel Schantz is CPR for those swallowed by the swamps of suburbia. Definitely pop, uncomfortably revealing, and insanely self-mocking, it is music for those trapped in the Nabokavian cage. Join Joel (singer-songwriter-guitarist), Ferny Coipel (bassist), and Ari Schantz (drummer-sex god) for an entertaining evening of neuroticism.

artist:
biography:
Maria Marocka
Spritely pop chantuese Maria Marocka makes the most of what she has to offer: modern, heartfelt rock performed with true passion.

artist:
biography:
The Mavericks
The Mavericks have always lived up to their name - from their earliest days in Miami when they played souped-up country in punk rock clubs, to their current live show which includes a four-piece horn section dressed in Ricky Ricardo ruffled shirts. The band began in Miami in late 1989 and soon became the toast of the club set, sometimes playing all night long and into the morning hours, with their mix of Hank Williams, Sr., Elvis, Roy Orbison and original songs written by lead singer Raul Malo. They released their first album in 1991 on Miami's Y & T Music label and moved to Nashville shortly thereafter upon signing with MCA Records. Get their historic Y & T Music release on cassette and a limited-edition, hand-numbered, autographed CD collector's box.

Mr. Entertainment and the Tiny Show
Mr. Entertainment, the 21st Century Vaudevillian, and his merry men, Pookiesmackers in the studio, tiny show live, has been making sides split for the latter part of the 20th century. CD recorded over a years time in my fine museum of a home, 1926 Funstown Street. Creeks and traffic noises left in for good measure. After years of playing with nothing recorded, this was my story of my life. Even included my mom singing my favorite nursery rhymes mama made up her self. After listening to my own CD, I get that funny feeling of dizziness and euphoria from the playground merry-go-round and kissing in the makeshift tunnel of love. Happy, fun, music. Just finishing up a year of playing live shows and getting ready to record my follow up named, "Recreational Drug Usage and Cookie Consumption". Should be done by fall 2001. Mr. E

artist:
biography:
Angela Patua
Angela Patua was not born to sing background music. When she performs, she commands attention with rousing chants and deep ballads accompanied by guitar, dancing, and sometimes indecipherable patter. Her spirit moves, her music transcends. A country girl from southeast Brazil, Patua sings in African Yoruba and native Brazilian dialects, as well as in Portuguese and English. Creating her own fusion of Afro-Brazilian folkloric music and blues, she croons about the community of man and the preservation of nature with a sincerity rarely heard these days. "I want to sing for a better world," she says with conviction.

Rhett & the Pawnshop Drunks
Musical styles come and go. However lyrics transcend the constraints of time. Rhett's strength is his words. Complimented by the Pawnshop Drunks, which include Tony Medina on lead guitar, Mark Binko on bass, Ryan Sambrook on keyboards, Roly Lugo on drums and Tony Suarez on percussion, Rhett couldn't be accused of holding anything back. The piano driven Honey Your Knees, Rolling Stones influenced Aeroplanes, and lyric driven, Dylanesque, Crack in the Door are a clear indication of his passion for the word and given his past, he has a hell of a lot of material to work through.

artist:
biography:
Matthew Sabatella
This Miami-based singer/songwriter is the founder of SlipstreamPresents.com. Read About Us for the whole story. As a vocalist, bassist, guitarist, and keyboardist he has recorded and performed with artists such as Amanda Green, Diane Ward, The Curious Hair, Mary Karlzen, Sixo, Jolynn Daniel, Maria Marocka, Brian Franklin, Angela Patua, and Muse.

They developed a devout following in the NYC/Philly/D.C. area and re-located to Denver, Colorado in 1998. Add a splash of Cat Power and Dirty Three with eclectic rhythmic influences and you have Sarina Simoom.

Trophy Wife
Pop culture has spawned some pretty bizarre entities. Trophy Wife may be one of them. Mixed in with some pleasant pop ballads like "I Believe" and "Am I Real" are such strange topics as "Martha Stewart" ("She's super woman with a spatula gun"), "Tasty Snacks" ("I'm just a slave to the Ding Dong ho") and "Tall Chicks" ("Tall chicks really make me sick...I hope that model witch gets her foot stuck in a deep ditch"). The band can also rock as in "On Fire", "Bad Girls" and "Love and Hate." Besides writing all the material, Karen Feldner is also the "chick -singer" (that's how it's listed on the CD), plays guitars, keyboards and harmonica. I love a band with a sense of humor, especially when they sound as good as this one. She Cooks. She Shops. She Rocks. (Franklin E. Wales - Rag Magazine)

The Velveteen Monster
The Velveteen Monster started out as Jux County's side project in 1997, but has evolved into one the most uniquely original outfits around. Described as a perfect blend of original film soundtrack, smoking room, and game show music, the VM features Ron Smith, Andy Monley, Chris Pearson and singer Denise LaNay. After opening for equally esoteric bands Acetone and 16 Horsepower, they play occasional live shows, instrumental Halloween bashes, and art gallery openings around Denver, Colorado.

Venus Diablo
Venus Diablo meshes devilish swing, be-bop jazz rhythms, and introspective film soundtrack rock into a hypnotic stew that will linger in your mind well after the CD is over. The fullness in the trio's sound places equal emphasis on guitar, bass and drums (Steve Mickelsen on a fender jazz master and lead vocals, Johnny Cassidy on flat-top acoustic bass and back-up hollerin', and Chris Scott Hutton on drums). Of note is Steve Mickelsen's sweeping baritone vocals which give power and prejudice to the songs while still maintaining gentler moments with every other breath.

Jim Wurster & the Atomic Cowboys
Long known to South Florida music fans as the bandleader and principal songwriter of the alternative-pop act Black Janet, Jim Wurster, it seems, has always been a country boy at heart. Not the kink of aw-shucks, Garth Brooks-type hick Nashville's so fond of these days, but the class of songwriter who knows that country music and all its attendant genres (rockabilly, Western swing, bluegrass) is an artform rich in tradition and emotional realism not something created by crass marketing execs in a Nashville Network boardroom.
