artist information

Introspective and insightful, the simplicity of her chords and the striking juxtaposition of lyrics leave the songs laid out for the listener to figure out for themselves and to weave into their own lives. Her wispy, weathered vocals have a light texture sounding confidently timid. This creates a new sound which some could classify in the same genre as popular female singer/songwriters, but those who know more than just popular music know that is it so much more. It's original, creative and not artificial because it's Emily making her own way and doing it exactly how she wants to.

Cole
Emily Easterly

notes:

CD
2002
Cole was recorded in July of 2002 in Richmond, VA at Sound of Music Studios, partly owned by David Lowery of the band Cracker. For her sophomore effort, Emily once again teamed up with producer Miguel Urbiztondo (Maki, Koester) and engineer Alan Weatherhead (Sparklehorse, Mary Timmony, Maki, Koester) to record eight songs. The songs are a lush layering of sounds including pedal steel guitars that sound like keyboards, sweeping synth sounds and electric guitars.

The album title refers to Emily's middle name in an attempt to make a reference between the significant understatement and importance of a middle name and these eight songs. A middle name is very much a part of a person but it is constantly overshadowed and never in the forefront. Coming from a place that is buried away, these songs surface with the release of Cole.

Assembling Emily
Emily Easterly

format:
released:

CD
2001
Assembling Emily is the debut EP by Emily Easterly. It was recorded in late May, early June at Sound of Music Studios in Richmond, VA. The six songs written by Emily were given new life with co-producer Miguel Urbiztondo (Maki, Koester) and engineer Alan Weatherhead (Sparklehorse, Mary Timmony, Denali, Maki, Koester).

"Assembling Emily is steeped in emotion if you want to hear it. But she's not going to force it on you. Her subtle but substantiative vocals cover a broad rang of high and low, light and deep, downright soulful, backed by electric chords, keyboard innovations, harmonies and faint echoes."
- Lindsay Perry November 2002
