artist information

t. griffin is a songwriter and sonic adventurer based in New York City. His two CDs (1999's Tortuga and 2001's Light in the Aisles) have been acclaimed critically and become college radio favorites. Live, he has been called 'the iron chef of singer-songwriters' for his ingenious use of a few simple materials. Two walkmans, a sampler, a Casio and a 1950 Gibson Guitar create the haunting backdrops that frame his gently twisted story songs. In addition to his songs, he has recorded music for theater and film, including soundtrack work alongside Sparklehorse for Jem Cohen (Fugazi: Instrument, Benjamin Smoke) and Ann Bogart's SITI company.

Singer, songwriter and sonic adventurer t. griffin's second long player is a haunting 11-song cycle of grainy, cinematic story-songs. Recorded primarily on a portable minidisc player and a powerbook, Light in the Aisles is a dark, spacious record laced with piano, violin, swelling guitars, and walkman tape effects. Griffin's voice wraps around 11 fractured narratives that range from sweet to murderous. Throughout, a gently warped sense of humor lurks, leaving deadpan one-liners like landmines among the spaghetti guitars and looped beats.
