Venus Diablo meshes devilish swing, be-bop jazz rhythms, and introspective film soundtrack rock into a hypnotic stew that will linger in your mind well after the CD is over. The fullness in the trio's sound places equal emphasis on guitar, bass and drums (Steve Mickelsen on a fender jazz master and lead vocals, Johnny Cassidy on flat-top acoustic bass and back-up hollerin', and Chris Scott Hutton on drums). Of note is Steve Mickelsen's sweeping baritone vocals which give power and prejudice to the songs while still maintaining gentler moments with every other breath.
